This photo was taken of my grandfather
at Clarinda State Hospital in
about 1936, where he was hospitalized for
TB. I did not see this photo
until Dec 1998 after I tracked down a cousin of my
dad's, through letters
my grandmother left from my grandfather, census
information, & the
internet. My dad's cousin in New Mexico, who I
nervously called one
Sunday afternoon, was gracious enough to speak to me,
(although he did
not remember my dad) regale me with stories of my ancestors,
and put me
in contact with his sister in California who did remember my
dad. It was
she who sent this photo, and a great deal of information on my
ancestry.
I am forever grateful that they not only spoke to me,
essentially a stranger
calling on a Sunday afternoon, but have answered a
question I'd wondered
about for decades, who was my grandfather, and who were the Chauncey's.
